UBIG – Urban and Bio Innovations in Geotechnics

Welcome to the official platform of UBIG (Urban and Bio Innovations in Geotechnics), a research group under the Faculty of Engineering at Parahyangan Catholic University, Indonesia. UBIG is directed by Aswin Lim Ph.D. was established to address the evolving challenges in geotechnical engineering, particularly in the context of complex urban environments and the urgent demand for sustainable infrastructure solutions.

Our research integrates fundamental geotechnical engineering with practical engineering applications, with focus areas including:

  • Urban Geotechnical Engineering – encompassing deep excavations, tunneling, and foundation systems in densely built environments
  • Bio-mediated and Bio-inspired Soil Improvement – exploring sustainable technologies such as biopolymer-treated soils, microbial-induced calcite precipitation (MICP), enzyme-induced calcite precipitation (EICP), and fungi-mycelium-based ground modification
  • Smart Sensing and Monitoring – leveraging fiber optic-based instrumentation for real-time geotechnical performance assessment

At UBIG, we aim to bridge the gap between academic research and engineering practice by collaborating with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and international research communities. Our projects are grounded in rigorous experimentation, advanced numerical modeling, and field applications, with the ultimate goal of contributing to resilient and future-ready infrastructure.

We welcome researchers, professionals, students, and collaborators who share our vision to engage with our work and contribute to the advancement of geotechnical innovation.
