Profile

Dr. Aswin Lim is an Associate Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at Parahyangan Catholic University, Indonesia. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, with research focused on advanced excavation support systems. His core expertise includes deep excavation and tunneling, numerical modeling for geotechnical problems, and bio-mediated soil improvement.

Dr. Lim is a certified Geotechnical Engineer (J9-Expert Level) in Indonesia and has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in leading SCI- and Scopus-indexed journals. He also holds an international patent for an innovative strut-free diaphragm wall excavation method.

He actively contributes to the academic and professional community as a reviewer and editorial board member for journals such as Journal of GeoEngineering, Indonesian Geotechnical Journal, Acta Geotechnica, and Biogeotechnics, etc. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Society for Geotechnical Engineering (HATTI),  a member of ISSMGE’s Asian Regional Technical Committee (AsRTC6), a member of TC-223 (Bio-geotechnical Engineering) of ISSMGE, and a member of AsRTC 22 (Biogeotechnics) of ISSMGE.

Dr. Lim is also the founder and lead researcher of UBIG (Urban and Bio Innovations Geotechnics), a research group dedicated to advancing geotechnical engineering solutions for sustainable urban infrastructure. UBIG focuses on deep urban excavations, tunneling, bio-soil improvement techniques (such as MICP, EICP, and mycelium-based treatments), and smart sensing technologies.
